Congratulations Olympia You Did It!

Posted on November 8, 2015

This week over 7000 Olympia voters supported the creation of a Metropolitan Park District. Proposition I was approved by nearly 60% of those who voted. This is a wonderful statement that people are willing to pay for the expansion and maintenance of the park system. The new resource, of about $3 million per year, makes it much more likely that the city will be able to acquire and remove the long vacant Capitol Center Building. As you probably know, another proposal recently surfaced to re-purpose this building. Although this follows a long series of previously failed proposals, if it does succeed we would continue to endure, far into the future, this architectural mistake, sitting in the middle of what should be one of the great vistas in America, between our magnificent Capitol Campus and the majestic Olympic Mountains. We believe that Interest in removing the Capitol Center Building was one of the main motivations among the overwhelming majority of voters who supported Proposition I. We urge the city of Olympia to move quickly to purchase the Building.

Please join us on Thursday, November 19 at 10 am to celebrate the completed demolition of two of the derelict buildings on the isthmus. The removal of these building marks an important milestone in our vision of creating the Capitol Olympic Vista Park. The view is already enormously improved. The celebration will take place in the parking lot at 505 West 4th Avenue, Olympia SW. We will honor the support of the city and people of Olympia, Thurston County, and the hundreds of
donors to the Olympia Capitol Park Foundation.

Please remember it is November in the Northwest, so dress accordingly.
